Control
Control strategy and M&E coordination
Panels can be switched individually or grouped into zones. The electrical schematic is issued at specification stage so containment and supplies can be allowed for early.

Transformer and control
Driving voltage 48–60 VAC ±5 V, with the transformer installed in an accessible location.

Coordination
Resolve interfaces before site installation
Cable routes, busbar positions and supply locations are fixed at specification stage and issued as drawings for approval.
Coordination
Requirements for design and installation teams
Settled early, these keep switchable glazing off the snagging list.
- The glass type and thickness supplied should correspond with the project drawings or client specification. Where these are not specified, the type and thickness should be directed by the architect, main contractor or designer.
- Where applicable, each panel may carry a permanent safety certification label and an identifying label.
- For glass over 3 metres in height, top and bottom electrical connections are required.
- The transformer should be installed in an accessible location.
- The customer is to provide a 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz fused plug socket near the transformer location. A draw cable may also be required, with details provided by the installation team.
- A wall-mounted switch may be provided as an additional control method where required.
- Smart glass or film panels may be connected in parallel up to a total area of 50 m² per single power-control system, subject to the project design and supplied equipment.
- Before installation, bus bars, electrode leads and wiring should be inspected to confirm insulation. Exposed bus bars, electrode leads or wires must not contact metal frames, as this may damage the transformer or smart glass/film.
Warranty
Warranty periods for project documentation
Switchable glass and film contain electronic components and are intended for dry-location applications. Installation in damp areas such as wet rooms, shower rooms or areas subject to heavy water splash may expose the product to water damage. Water damage is excluded from the warranty under the reference specification.

Maintenance
Operation and maintenance requirements
The cleaning routine below is taken from the Operation & Maintenance Guide issued with every installation. Retrofit film follows the same sequence.
- Always switch the glass OFF before cleaning. Do not switch it back ON until the surface and relevant areas are completely dry.
- Do not disturb electrical connections and prevent liquid from entering the frame or framework.
- Use only a damp, clean, lint-free microfibre cloth or towel.
- Avoid chemicals and excessive water.
- For stubborn marks, a small amount of isopropyl alcohol may be used carefully on the film surface.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, industrial-strength glass cleaners or cleaning tools that may scratch the surface.
- Do not allow water to enter the glass edges. Water ingress may damage the product and invalidate the warranty.
- Lightly dampen the surface or cloth with a small amount of water; wipe with a clean, soft cloth; repeat until the dirt is removed; then ensure the frame and edges remain dry.
Project documentation issued
Every project is supported by the following, released in line with the programme rather than at handover alone.
- Product data sheets for the specified build-up
- Electrical schematic and zoning schedule
- Setting-out and lead-out drawings
- RAMS, insurance and operative certification
- O&M manual and warranty documentation
Important
Do not
- Do not clean the glass or film when it is hot or in direct sunlight.
- Do not allow cleaning solutions to contact the edges of the glass or film.
- Do not use cleaners containing hydrofluoric or phosphoric acid, as these are corrosive to glass surfaces.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, powder-based cleaners, scouring pads or other harsh materials.
- Do not lean against, or place objects against, smart glass or film.
- Do not use tapes or adhesives on the glass or film surfaces unless they are known to be easily removable and suitable for the application.
- Do not use silicone other than the silicone specified for the installation.
Optical appearance
Haze
- Smart glass typically has a haze level of around 5–10%. It may appear hazier in direct sunlight or when viewed from certain angles.
- Double-glazed products may appear slightly hazier than single-glazed products. Switchable glass/film is not optically identical to conventional float glass; some clouding or haze is inherent to the technology and is considered normal.
- Haze can be less apparent under some conditions, including ambient LED lighting and light-coloured surroundings.
Aftercare
Annual checks
- At least once a year, check that all visible wiring is in good condition, framing materials are undamaged, and the transformer and switch appear to be in proper working order.
- Inspect adjoining walls, ceilings, and floors for structural integrity and signs of excessive humidity.
- If you notice damage, water ingress, exposed wiring, or abnormal operation, stop using the affected system where appropriate and contact IntegriGlaze for technical advice.
Questions
Questions from project teams
Anything not covered here, send it over — we answer specification queries directly rather than through a form.
Switching between the clear and private states takes approximately 100 milliseconds in either direction. There is no perceptible delay in use.
The film is private in its unpowered state, so the glass defaults to opaque when power is removed. Where a clear fail state is required, we can specify a small UPS on the drive circuit.
Power consumption is under 0.5 W/ft² (10 W/m²), drawn only while the glass is held clear. The driving voltage is 48–60 VAC ±5 V, and a dedicated supply is sized at approximately 6 W/m².
Yes. Retrofit smart film is applied to the inner face of existing glass in situ. It suits occupied buildings where replacing the glazing would be disruptive or uneconomic.
A remote control is included. A manual wall switch, motion sensor, app control and voice control are all available as options, confirmed for your project at specification stage.
Electronics and accessories carry one year, retrofit smart film two years, and laminated glass and sealed glass units five years. Life expectancy is more than ten years, depending on operating conditions, installation quality, switching frequency and maintenance.
